1. 1888 - T. S. Eliot, American-born writer and editor, Nobel Prize laureate (d. 1965) (I would be much more impressed by this had he written "Old Possum's Book of Practical Dogs.")
   
   
2. 1898 - George Gershwin, American composer (d. 1937)
   (He wrote a piece called "Walking the Dog," so you know he's a good guy.
